Safe Lifting

Prepare for the Lift:

• Wear the proper PPE.

• Steel toe shoes when lifting heavy items.

• Gloves for lifting certain objects.

• Stretch before you attempt to lift a heavy object.

• If possible, store heavy items at waist level to

reduce the strain on your back.

• Assess the object you are going to be lifting.

• Determine the weight of the object.

• Determine the best place to grip the object.

• Ensure your travel path is free of slip/trip hazards.

• Know your weight limits. Don’t lift more than you

are capable of.

Get Help:

• Before lifting a load over 50lbs., request help from

another worker.

Proper Lifting Techniques:

• Have your feet about shoulder-width apart.

• Stand close to the object.

• Get a firm grip on the object.

• Keep your back straight and elbows close to

your body.

• Keeping your back straight and head up,

straighten your legs to lift object.

• At the same time, tighten your stomach muscles

to provide back support.

• While carrying the object DO NOT twist or bend at

the waist, move your feet and legs when turning.

• Keep the load as close to your body as possible.

• To set the object down, use the same technique

used to lift the object.

Forklift Safety 

Pedestrians and Other Employees

  • Keep clear of forklifts that are in operation

  • Stay in designated areas and walkways

  • assume the operator does not see you

  • Be aware that forklifts cannot stop suddenly

  • Stay alert when near the back of a forklift - it swings widely

  • Never ride on a gear or stand on forklift

  • Never walk under an elevated forklift.

  • Stop when 5 feet from forklift until instructed to walk by

Slips, Trips and Falls

Prevention

• Always practice good housekeeping.

• Never leave water or oil spills unattended.

• Never allow an object to sit on stairways or

ramps.

• Always use a ladder or stepstool.

• Report or repair loose or damaged handrails,

stairway treads, mats, and walkway runners.

• Wear proper footwear.

• Ensure proper lighting.

• When walking, don’t carry loads that block your

vision.

• Use hand or safety rails on stairways. Maintain

3 points of contact at all times.

• Report any floor openings that are not

protected.

• Keep away from the edge of unprotected

floors/roofs that are elevated.

Proper PPE

(personal protective equipment)

Some sites require special PPE

Vests: Sites may ask you to wear a vest. This is to make you stand out and more visible on the floor. When required to wear a vest you must have it on at all times while on the warehouse floor.

Steel Toe shoes: steel toes are required at sites that may have heavy products. We will inform you if steel toes are required. If required please wear at all times in warehouse

Gloves: Some locations may provide you gloves. We ask that when handling material you keep gloves on at all times. This prevents blisters, splinters, rashes or anything else cause by caring materials. Gloves should be provided to you if required

Safety Glasses: Sites may require safety glasses. In cases Safety glasses are required the site will provide them to you. Safety glasses are use so small debris or products do not hit or enter your eyes. Please always wear safety glasses where instructed

Ear Plugs: Some sites may require you to wear ear plugs. Ear plugs are worn on area of loud constant noise. please keep ear plugs in your ears at all time when required.

Hard Hat: Some locations may require a hard hat. This is to protect your head in case of any product that may fall. They maybe required in a manufacturing plant. The site will provide these if required
